Bringing the global game to Wesbrook with a ‘Soccer in the Square’ watch party

This summer, UBC Properties Trust is proud to bring the excitement of world-class soccer to the heart of Wesbrook Village with Soccer in the Square, a free, outdoor public viewing experience to catch all the tournament action at Norman MacKenzie Square. 2026 marks the third consecutive summer of free community screening events organized by UBCPT in Wesbrook.

From June 11 to July 19, community members, students, families, and visitors are invited to gather and enjoy live broadcasts of matches from the internationally celebrated soccer tournament, hosted in part in Vancouver. Set beneath a shaded tent with picnic-style seating, the event offers a welcoming, accessible space to come together and share in the game’s energy.

Designed with community in mind, Soccer in the Square provides a casual, family-friendly atmosphere where guests of all ages can connect and celebrate. Fans will have the opportunity to cheer on Team Canada during key matches on June 12, June 18, and June 24, while enjoying the surroundings of Wesbrook Village. The event is pet-friendly (for leashed dogs), and visitors can take advantage of two-hour complimentary parking nearby.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnics or explore a variety of local dining options. Neighbouring businesses include Nicli Pizzeria + Bar, Togo Sushi, and Sports Illustrated Clubhouse. These local eateries will be open for dine-in or takeaway, adding to the lively and convenient experience.

“This is such an exciting moment for Vancouverites, and we’re especially proud to bring a piece of that energy to Wesbrook Village alongside the incredible local businesses in the area,” says Emer Byrne, Director of Marketing at UBC Properties Trust. “By creating a space to gather close to home, we’re giving local families, residents and visitors to the area the chance to come together, celebrate the games, and experience that shared sense of excitement as a community.”

With capacity for approximately 150 guests, seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs for added comfort. Beyond match screenings, the space will remain active with family-friendly programming, including movies, music, and entertainment throughout the tournament period.

Located in the award-winning Wesbrook Village, recognized as Best Master Planned Community and Best in Show at the 2024 Urban Development Institute Awards for Excellence, Soccer in the Square reflects UBC Properties Trust’s ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, connected community experiences.

Event details, match schedules, and programming updates will be available on the Live at UBC events calendar.
