New Wesbrook Place park now open for the community
We are pleased to announce that a new park located in the southeast corner of Wesbrook Place has opened, along with a new extension to the existing McCrae Lane thoroughfare for bike and pedestrian access.
The park is located in the southeast corner of Wesbrook Place, providing a new welcoming green space for UBC Point Grey residents and visitors.
At this time, public access to the park will be on Gray Ave and a thoroughfare on the right side of Evolve located at 3518 Wesbrook Mall. Nestled in the vibrant Wesbrook Place neighbourhood, the new park serves as an inviting gathering space to relax, play, and connect.
UBC Properties Trust, which oversaw the park’s development and construction, is currently managing its maintenance until the park transitions to the University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) next spring. The decision to open the park ahead of the official handover was fueled by the community’s anticipation along with the grand opening of Theory, a new rental building for UBC staff and faculty that stands proudly behind the park.
The new park is part of an extensive network of greenways and public spaces throughout Wesbrook Place, as envisioned in the Neighbourhood Plan first adopted in 2005 and enhanced through subsequent amendments. UBC Properties Trust has been responsible for implementing this plan, ensuring that most of the parks and greenways were established even before the first residents arrived. These spaces feature sustainable landscaping elements, such as rainwater management channels, ponds, and native plants that support local ecosystems. Today, Wesbrook’s parks and greenways are cherished by the community, offering places for recreation, quiet reflection, and pathways that seamlessly and sustainably connect the neighbourhood for people of all ages.
With landscaped lush greenery, pathways, water features, a kid’s playground and seating areas, the park will be a new space where neighbours and visitors can connect and enjoy outdoor leisure time within Wesbrook Place.
The new park marks another milestone in UBC Properties Trust’s efforts to create vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable environments that enhance the living experience at UBC.
