New Wesbrook Place park remains closed until complete

UBC’s Wesbrook Place neighbourhood plan was adopted in 2005. Today, Wesbrook Place is UBC’s largest neighbourhood spanning 114 acres in south campus and is home to 9,700 residents — and growing.

In the planning process leading up to adoption of the plan, emphasis was placed on designing a system of public open spaces to provide recreation and link all parts of the neighbourhood. When the first residents arrived in 2008, UBC Properties Trust had already built many parks and greenways, and this system has been extended as each section of the neighbourhood has been developed.

A new park is being developed east of Wesbrook Mall and south of Gray Avenue. The park is not yet officially open, and an adjacent active construction site with potential access needed through the park, as well as unfinished playground equipment, poses significant safety risks for park users at this time. The park will remain closed in the interim.

We are working to open the park as soon as possible, and will reassess the area in the fall. Please refer to our website News page for further updates.
