Food & Beverage Innovation Centre
Supporting the Faculty of Land and Food Systems research, the Food & Beverage Innovation Centre transforms the future of food technology.
It is the main facility of the BC Ministry of Agriculture’s BC Food Hub Network intended to improve food security and human welfare.
Given the narrow parcel of land to work with, we faced a challenge in determining the best way to accommodate the extensive processing equipment. UBC Properties worked with stakeholders and contractors to devise a solution with all necessary equipment on site.
The building includes teaching and laboratory spaces for food processing and engineering courses, such as fermentation laboratories for alcohol-based beverages and office spaces. It also serves as a hub for Musqueam collaboration to foster awareness about the sustainability of traditional foods and medicines.
