Recreation Centre North
UBC’s Point Grey campus, a world-class university with over 60,000 students, has a critical problem: its need for more recreation space.
The Recreation Centre North will triple the current amount of indoor fitness and recreation space. Taking up four levels, it will include three gym courts, an elevated 200-metre indoor track, change areas, administrative offices, and more than 40,000 sqft of state-of-the-art fitness and multipurpose studio space.
The building will be situated at the north end of campus, just north of the UBC Life building at the western end of Student Union Boulevard. The outdoor walkway corridor between it and the Life building will allow for free-flowing foot traffic, prioritizing accessibility. The Centre will be the new home to UBC’s Physical Activity office which turns research into real-world programs promoting physical activity to the student population.
