School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME)
Discovery and innovation that will advance our understanding of human biology as we know it requires a high-calibre space to match.
Designed by award-winning and world-renowned Patkau Architects and Rick Hansen Gold certified for accessibility, SBME is a striking five-storey building with interior spaces configured around a central atrium.
SBME replaces the 60-year old Copp building, and proudly stands at the south side of University Boulevard providing classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, a 250-seat lecture theatre, office space, meeting space, and informal learning community spaces. One retail unit sits at street level beside an outdoor courtyard and patio area.
The building is a flagship entity at UBC, providing a space for research that will transform our knowledge of biomedical engineering and impact society for years to come.
