Totem In-Fill Student Housing & Commons Renovations
The Totem In-fill development utilizes existing food services and recreation/fitness facilitates at Totem Park and adds approximately 567 beds.
This project is part of the Student Housing and Hospitality Services (SHHS) overall strategy to develop an additional 2,500 beds on the Vancouver campus by 2014, thereby increasing the overall student residence spaces to 35% of full-time student population within that period. As part of its growth plan to address significant demand for on-campus student housing, UBCPT developed additional in-fill housing at the Totem Park Residence on behalf of SHHS. The Totem Park Residence In-Fill Phase 2 project added one more residence building (2 houses) with approximately 350 traditional beds, increasing the total Totem Park population to over 2,100 students.
The Commons Block of the Totem Park Student Residence serves six residential houses, with food services and other student amenities.
In partnership with UBC Housing and Conferences, UBC Food Services, a major redevelopment of the Commons Block, was undertaken with a complete renovation of the lounge, multi-purpose room and various Food Service facilities. This renovation concludes the full renovation of the entire residence complex, including seismic upgrades and complete mechanical and electrical upgrades.
A two-storey addition has been constructed east of the main entrance. It contains a flexible space for a student lounge, gallery space and Food Services offices.
