University Children's Learning Centre - Expansion
Access to childcare is one of the most important, if not the most important considerations for student and faculty parents. And due to increased growth in students, staff, and faculty at UBCO campus, childcare facilities are consistently waitlisted, year over year.
A renovation in 2019 increased childcare spaces temporarily, but it was unable to accommodate the level of demand.
In 2020, UBCO successfully applied for a grant to fund the construction of the new space — the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund will support the expansion with 37 more childcare spaces bringing the total to 94. The new centre will be situated adjacent to the current facility, and simultaneously provide further learning opportunities for UBC medical, nursing, and psychology students. It will include a variety of spaces — indoor activity, support, and services areas, and outdoor play areas and storage.
